Have you ever wondered if you're just scratching the surface with LinkedIn?
Like many, you might already have a profile, share the occasional post, and maybe even connect with a few people here and there. But deep down, you know LinkedIn could be SO much more than just an online resume! Yet, it remains one of the most underrated platforms when it comes to building real connections, generating leads, and showcasing your expertise.
It’s important to understand LinkedIn isn’t just a platform for ‘job hunters’. It’s a goldmine of opportunities waiting to be tapped into, whether you're an entrepreneur, a service provider, or a seasoned professional. But, let’s be honest, most people aren’t using it well enough to fully harness its power!
Now i’ll be honest, I get it, I know what it is like to be ‘curious but not confident’ in a platform and find it easier to just avoid it so I am going to share with you a couple of my tips to step up your LinkedIn game and turn it into a serious asset for your business and brand:
Step 1. Engage With Intention (It's Not Just About Posting!)
A lot of people think being active on LinkedIn means posting regularly, and while that's important, it’s only half the story. LinkedIn is a networking community, and the magic happens when you engage with others. Instead of waiting for people to engage with your content, go out and start conversations!
Set aside 10-15 minutes a day to comment thoughtfully on other people's posts, connect with new individuals, and share insights. Being active and supportive of others will naturally increase your visibility and boost your credibility. It's like showing up at a networking event and actually talking to people rather than just handing out your business card!
Step 2. Show Your Expertise Through Value (Instead of Just Talking About It)
We all know those LinkedIn posts that read like a hard sales pitch (insert cringe here) or a highlight reel of someone’s achievements. But here’s a secret: no one cares unless it helps them solve a problem. The key to standing out is to provide value. Share what you know, offer advice, and be genuinely helpful. When you stop “selling” and start solving, people will take notice.
‘Be real’, share tips, how-tos, or lessons you've learnt in your industry. When you position yourself as a ‘helpful’ resource, people will naturally want to engage and seek out your expertise. That’s when LinkedIn becomes a lead-generating machine!
Step 3. Get Personal (Without Being Unprofessional)
LinkedIn often feels like a strictly business space, but people still connect with people. Sharing personal experiences, behind-the-scenes insights, or even challenges you're facing in business humanises you. And that makes you ‘relatable’. The more relatable you are, the easier it is for people to trust you—and trust equals business opportunities.
Don’t be afraid to get real. Whether it’s about a lesson you learnt the hard way or a funny story from your day-to-day work, opening up a little will make your LinkedIn presence more engaging and authentic.
